The American billionaire businessman Daniel Anthony D’Aniello was born on September 14, 1946, in Pennsylvania, the United States. He experienced his childhood in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was raised by Italian-American parents.
Daniel A. D’Aniello attended graduated Butler Senior High School from which he joined Syracuse University, graduating magna cum laude in 1968. In 1974, he graduated from the Harvard Business School with an MBA before going on to join the business industry.

Soon after completing his education, D’Aniello started working as a financial officer at PepsiCo and Trans World Airlines. From there, he joined Mariott Corporation where he served as vice president for finance and development, tasked with the responsibility for the valuation of major mergers, divestitures, debt and equity offerings, acquisitions, and project financings.
In 1987 when he was 41 years old, D’Aniello teamed up with David Rubenstein and William E. Conway Jr. and co-founded the Carlyle Group where he now serves as chairman of the board.
Asides from his job at Carlyle, Daniel D’Aniello is on the board of trustees of the American Enterprise Institute and the IVMF advisory board.
