Frank Giustra is a Canadian businessman and mining financier, as well as a world-renowned philanthropist. He is responsible for founding the film production company called Lionsgate Entertainment.
Mr. Giustra is the chief executive officer of Fiore Group of Companies. He is co-chairman of International Crisis Group, and was the chair of Endeavour Financial from 2001 to 2007. Endeavour Financial is a merchant banking firm which focuses on financing mining companies.
Frank’s works in business and philanthropy has been well received and recognized, and the businessman has been honored through various ways. He is a member of the Order of Canada, C.M, a member of the Order of British Columbia, O.B.C., and has received the International Crisis Group In Search of Peace Award, the Dalai Lama Humanitarian Award, and numerous others.
Early Life: Childhood, Education
He was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, in the year 1957. His parents were Domenica and Giuseppe Giustra, who immigrated to Canada before he was born. His father, Giuseppe Giustra, worked as a blaster and driller in the mines. He was a nickel miner who later introduced his son to his broker.
His childhood was spent off the British Columbia coast. He spent his years in middle school in Aldergrove, British Columbia, Canada, and completed his high school in 1976. Frank graduated from Douglas College in 1979. While in college, he spent his freshman year playing trumpet in his school’s music program before making an important switch over to finance and business.
Professional Life: Business & Mining Career
Frank Giustra has achieved success in more than a few ventures, including in mining and filmmaking.
Upon graduating from Douglas College in 1979, he started his career immediately, working as an assistant stockbroker and trader for Merrill Lynch.
He made Yorkton Securities a “major force in the international mining finance scene “. In 1990, he became President of Yorkton, and was appointed chairman and chief executive officer five years later.
For six years starting from 2001 until 2007, he served as the chairman of a merchant banking firm which focuses on financing mining companies, known as Endeavour Financial.
In his time at Fiore Financial Corporation, Frank Giustra is serving as the firm’s president and chief executive officer. He started the Radcliffe Foundation in the years 1997, and collaborated with Carlos Slim and former United States President Bill Clinton to launch a $20 million fund to empower small businesses in Haiti back in 2010. The foundation has contributed roughly $30 million to the Bill Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative.
Giustra started the production company Lions Gate Entertainment in 1997. He served as the Chairman from its inception until 2003 when he sold his stake. He returned to Lionsgate Entertainment and joined the Board of Directors as a member in 2010. In 2012, he started a new company called Sea to Sky Entertainment. He is an investor and director in Thunderbird Films.

Frank is a strong believer in philanthropy. He likes to give back to society, and wholeheartedly devotes much of his time to many of causes both locally and globally. Frank is the founder of The Giustra Foundation (formerly Radcliffe Foundation). He approaches philanthropy with an entrepreneurial mindset, and this has helped him catalyze new ideas and modernism that can be shared and imitated.
He established Vancouver-based Giustra Foundation in 1997. The foundation supports various initiatives focused on women, children, education, and homelessness throughout in Canada. The Giustra Foundation is deeply involved in the global refugee crisis and plays its role by providing humanitarian aid. It is also a founding partner of the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative.
Also important to mention is that The Giustra Foundation has collaborated with the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Foundation on a community-based initiative called Streetohome, which was established in 2008 and brings together civil society groups, business, governments, non-profits, and residents to address homelessness in Vancouver.
Frank Giustra is a member of Streetohome Foundation board and heads the capital campaign. He donated $5 million in contribution to the foundation in 2010. The Giustra Foundation, on the other hand, has contributed roughly $30 million to the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI), which works with several partners to increase access to medical care for people living with HIV.
