He is a qualified and educated man, having graduated from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro with his bachelor’s degree. He also attended Harvard University where he completed the OPM program.
Professional Life
After meeting Jorge Paulo Lemann and Carlos Alberto Sicupira, Marcel Herrmann Telles worked with them both to start up a business in 1971. They formed the investment bank called Banco Garantia, which has become one of the most renowned investment banks in Brazil.
Mr. Marcel and his business partners acquired the Brazilian brewery business called Companhia Antarctica Paulista after gaining principal control of Brahma Beer. Both businesses were merged to form a single brand called AmBev. In 2004, AmBev was merged with another brewing company Interbrew to become a single entity known as InBev. In less than a year, the stock of the new company, InBev, increased by 40 percent and solidified the billionaire status of the three businessmen. InBev later went on to buy shares of the American brewer Anheuser-Busch which is behind globally known brands like Budlight and Budweiser. The merger between InBev and Anheuser-Busch led to what became the Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) company.
In 2004, Marcel, Carlos, Jorge, and their partner Robert Thompson Motta, founded an investment company which they named 3G Capital. Six years later, 3G bought the shares of the Burger King Company in a $4 billion deal. In 2013, 3G Capital made headlines when it paid an estimated $28 billion in acquiring the H.J.Heinz Company.
Marcel Herrmann Telles and his business partners also control the real estate investment firm, São Carlos Empreendimentos e Participações, and the Brazilian retailer Lojas Americanas. He was hired by Banco Garantia in 1972 and has served as a board member of Burger King, Partner of GP Investimentos, and board member of Lojas Americanas. He was the chief executive officer of Brahma for a decade from 1989 to 1999.
