He was born in the United States into the family of Howard and Leila Buffett. He had two sisters and a brother. His father, Howard, was a four-term United States congressman.
Warren started his education at Rose Hill Elementary School before joining Alice Deal Junior High School. He completed his secondary education at Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947.
He had a sharp business sense even as a child. He would make his own money by selling drinks and chewing gum to his peers. He became involved in several money making ventures as a teenager, and also learned to start investing his money.
After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947, he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1947 and studied there for two years before shifting to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He joined Buffett-Falk & Co for a start and spent three years working at the firm. In 1970, he was named the chief executive officer and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. He also continued to invest in the stock market and also worked as a stockbroker for a while, which helped him gain in-depth knowledge of the stock exchange market.
