Miriam Adelson is an Israeli medical doctor, casino heiress, and philanthropist. She is also the business partner of the late casino tycoon, Sheldon Adelson, her heartthrob, whom she married in 1991. As a doctor, Miriam specializes in drug addiction. She erected a substance abuse centre and research clinic at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, Israel In 1993, and seven years later, she and her beloved husband opened Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Research Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States. Miriam and her spouse are well known for their huge contributions to Republican politicians in America, as well as to Jewish, Israeli, and philanthropic causes. The Adelson Family Charitable Foundation was established in 2007 to contribute to Israeli and Jewish causes. Early Life: Childhood, Education

She was born Miriam Farbstein in Tel Aviv, Israel to Menucha and Simha Farbstein on October 10, 1945. Her parents absconded from Poland ahead of the Holocaust and found a safe place in the Middle East where they settled. As a child, her family settled in Haifa, Israel, and her father started a small business that eventually became a chain of movie theaters.

Miriam was educated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Genetics. She then attended Sackler Medical School at Tel Aviv University for her medical degree.

Professional Life: Medical Practice, Casino Fortune

After she completed her studies at Tel Aviv’s Sackler Medical School, Miriam Adelson began working at Rokach Hopsital in Tel Aviv as an emergency room doctor. Around this time she fell in love with another doctor and married him, had two children with him, and later divorced him in 1980. She later rose to the position of chief internist at the hospital where she worked, but her mind was on exploring other options in her career

In 1986, she left her country for the United States after securing a job at Rockefeller University in New York, where she specialized in drug addiction.

Three years after she entered America, Miriam met Sheldon Adelson after they were set up on a blind date. The duo married in 1991 and had their honeymoon in Venice, Italy. During that time, Sheldon, who was a wealthy trade show mogul with a flourishing casino business, had an idea for a hotel/resort modeled after an Italian city.

Mr. Sheldon made his first fortune courtesy of the Las Vegas COMDEX computer trade show that started in 1979. In 1988 he bought the Sands Casino for $110 million. In 1991 Sheldon demolished the Sands and moved on to spend $1.5 billion building his dream mega-resort. He named his new casino The Venetian. In 1995 Sheldon and his business partners sold their trade show business for $862 million to SoftBank. His earnings from the deal was more than $500 million. Over time, he expanded his empire to different locations, notably Macau and Singapore.

Together with his wife, Miriam, Sheldon has made many philanthropic donations in recent times. Miriam and Sheldon were known to be generous supporters of former US President Donald Trump before and during his tenure. It was estimated that the couple donated around $200 million to Trump and the Republican Party in the 2020 election cycle.

In 2012, the husband and wife donated $93 million to Republicans. Miriam and Sheldon gave $82.58 million to Republicans in 2016 and over $123 million during the midterm elections in 2018.
