Early Life: Childhood, Education

He was born Omid R. Kordestani in 1963 in Tehran, Iran. He was brought up by his family members in the same city where he was born, and he attended an Italian Catholic School called Andisheh Don Bosco School in Tehran. His school placed emphasis on education and language skills, and it helped him broaden his knowledge and communication ability.

After his father died in 1976, Omid moved to San Jose, California, United States, where he attended Bushser High School, graduating in 1980. He later attended San Jose University where he received an electrical engineering degree. Afterward, he went to Hewlett-Packard to work as an engineer. This businessman, during his time at Netscape, served as the company’s vice president of Business Development and Sales and helped increase the company’s website revenue from a run rate of $88 million annually to more than $200 million in a year and half period. He started his career at Netscape in the role of director of OEM Sales, and during his tenure at that company which lasted four years, he was responsible for establishing and holding up major customer relationships with Excite, eBay, @Home, Intel, Travelocity, Intuit, Citibank, AOL, and Amazon.

Before joining Netscape, Mr. Kordestani held positions in business development, marketing, and product management at Hewlett-Packard, The 3DO Company, and Go Corporation. In May 1999, joined Google and headed the development and implementation of the initial business model of the company and was its senior vice president of field operations and worldwide sales until April 16, 2009.
