American billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Edward Roski, Jr., is the owner, Chairman, and President of the largest private holder of the industrial estate in America, Board of Majestic Realty Co. Founded in 1948 by his father, the company has since obtained over 80 million square feet of development in a branched-out real estate holding. Mostly owning industrial buildings in parts of Southern California, the properties owned by the company extend from Los Angeles to Atlanta.
Edward is an alumnus of the University of Southern California. Accompanied by his beloved wife, Gayle Garner Roski, he pledged $23 million to the fine art’s school at his alma mater in 2006. Previously, he served as chairman of the University of Southern California board of trustees until he vacated the position for fellow Southern California real estate tycoon Rick Caruso. His father Ed Roski Sr. was born into a poor immigrant family from Poland and never had the chance to finish high school. Roski Sr. served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War and then moved to Southern California with his family and later founded Majestic Realty in 1948.
Roski Jr., unlike his father, had every opportunity to attempt and even complete his studies. He attended Los Angeles’ Loyola High School and furthered his education at the University of Southern California, from which he graduated with his bachelor’s in real estate and finance in 1962, before joining Majestic Realty in 1966.

United States Marine Corps
After graduating in 1962, Roski enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corps to start his professional career. After attending The Basic School at the United States Marine Corps Base Quantico, he was assigned to the First Marine Brigade before joining the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines. Three years on, Roski was deployed to South Vietnam from Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay. He was severely wounded in Chu Lai, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal.
In 2007, he established a charity organization called the “Land of the Free Foundation” with the aim of supporting war veterans and their families. To date, Roski has contributed about $10 million or more to its efforts.
Sports Involvement
In 1995, Roski became a minority owner of the NHL franchise the Los Angeles Kings. Three years later, he achieved another feat by becoming a minority owner of the NBA franchise Los Angeles Lakers. Roski and Philip Anschutz were the main owners of the Los Angeles Arena Company, hoping to replace the Great Western Forum and exercised an option to buy a quarter share of the Lakers, with the franchise agreeing to become a leaseholder in the planned arena. Roski and his business partner developed the Staples Center for both the Los Angeles Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers.
