Zhou Jianping was born on January 13, 1957. The place of his birth was Wangcheng County (now Wangcheng District of Changsha), in Hunan, China.
Zhou was admitted to the Dalian University of Technology after the resumption of his college entrance examination. At Dalian University, he obtained his master’s degree in engineering mechanics upon graduating in 1984.
He received his doctorate in solid mechanics in October 1989 from the National University of Defense Technology.

When he had completed his studies and obtained all the necessary qualifications, Zhou Jianping moved ahead to pursue his dreams in several fields of his interest.
In April 2000, joined the Shenzhou program as a space engineer and was appointed chief designer of the program in 2019.
Zhou Jianping is the founder and current owner of Heilan Home which is a fabric and apparel producer. The company was started in 2002 by Zhou all by himself, and now, it has expanded to own more than 1,300 chain stores in China alone. Helian Home also trades on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
